Well, this post would not exist if I had lost the bet. Not worth mentioning when the giant is right and you are not.

I lost the 3/3ply RO, but the difference was allmost the same.

The only reason I can give for my play is that in general the duce is better than the ace, that this game might last a while longer so the long term effect of playing pure may play a role and that it leaves only one blot (on our side).
