If you try the 2-point attempt sooner, then both sides gain information, compared to the state of uncertainty they would be in if you left the decision to the end. Maybe the point is debatable, but I think information generally favors the trailing team, because they have more options available to them and the other team is basically reacting to what they do.'
Very well stated and very true, it was not right for the Packers to go for two as it would have defined exactly what the Giants needed. With the Packers up by eight, the Giants do not know if they need one score or two. As an example, if the Giants reach the fifteen yard line with a 2:20 to go and two time-outs, do they try to score as quickly as possible or take their time, letting the clock run down? If they knew they were going to make the 2-point conversion they would like to score with one second left. If they knew they were going to miss the 2-point conversion they would like to score on the next play.
