This is an interesting position. I don't agree, however, that this position is "living proof that counting shots OTB has to be done if possible." Yes, one should count shots. But it's obvious that 14/8 leaves no shots, and it was also obvious to me that the double hit would leave fewer shots than my choice of 8/7*/2. That still didn't make the play obvious to me.

Maybe I will try to analyze this position further and see if I can come up with anything.
