This "misunderstanding" is only possible for someone who already knows something about match equities. The number of people who know enough to do a match equity calculation but who screw up this particular point is probably fairly small.

I thought about it and - I think you're right.


I think that the most likely misjudgment that would lead someone to take here would be overestimating how many shots Blue will generate as a result of his gap on the 2pt.

I think that players who don't know MET think that trailer at 5a1a score has less MWC than he does.
Combine that with what you said and take "becomes clear".
