Asthetically, the symmetry of Daniel's offerings is quite pleasing. His diagrams show how to use the two-toned color scheme. The high-contrast color (i.e, the dark color) must be used at the left edge of the board. This preserves the implied vertical line (i.e, left alignment) that pleases our puny brains. The low-contrast (light) color can be used thereafter. If this were the way in which two colors were used, I would withdraw my opposition to them. With Daniel’s placement of pip counts at top and bottom, his notion that the word “pip” can be omitted also seems to be a good one.
I am less enamored by Daniel’s use of different colors for the player names (gray for the player with white checkers, and blue for the player with blue checkers). I would prefer that the same color (possibly a lighter color than that of the score) be used for both.
Daniel’s placement of the score, part on top, and part on bottom, may not solve the problem that inspired this thread. You have to look in both places, and then mentally combine the information, to get the complete score.
Nack impressed me by pointing out that player names are the least important part of the diagram. I had never even considered that fact.
Nack’s one-line solutions have real merit.
Finally, let me echo Nack’s (and everyone else’s) graditute for your willingness to listen to the many different, and sometimes conflicting, ideas for improving the HTML export.
