What is the purpose of the bracket [symbols]?

Readability. The brackets help distinguish the set of plays and margins from the position (and score) before it and the bot/trial data after it.

Consider this list of data, with the brackets removed:

    54D-32 dD S1 $6 %7 Z15 /10***5
    32S-54H-52P-44 P K26 Y31 <5
    64S-64X-22 sp E2 M10 e12 "<=5

Here is how that list looks when the brackets are restored:

    54D-32 d[D S1 $6 %7 Z15] /10***5
    32S-54H-52P-44 [P K26 Y31] <5
    64S-64X-22 s[p E2 M10 e12] "<=5
