Interesting one, it looks like a pretty difficult roll to me. Stacking two semi-dead checkers on the three ? Hitting loose with a bad 3 to follow, and market losses when XG flunks ? Leaving the anchor while the opponent is ready to pounce, even if we have one more homeboard point ? I switched back and forth before noticing that the three - our problem number - could be played 5/2, when even if we get hit the straggler will still be primed on our 2-point. It risks to lose our advantage in the race, but not much else. Maybe I am influenced by not being able to decide between the other moves, but I will try it.
The subsidiary question is whether to play big with 6/1* 5/2. The cube helps to answer that one. If it was already turned it would be an option, but with a centered cube we blow our market way too often IMHO. So 8/3 5/2 it is (still I am all but sure).
8/3 5/2
