Well all that and I have some bad news for you. I tried updating some of the other fonts like Courier and Arial and unlike Consola font - they didn't render properly. This could also be as much a font issue as it is a browser issue, and OS issue.

As for IE9 - It can't be installed on XP, I believe you need Vista at a minimum according to the IE9 download page.

Firefox on XP seems to render the low line but they extend well beyond the edge of the characters and it looks messy. Same version of Firefox (v7.01) renders better. From all appearances I wonder if you might consider an upgrade to a newer version of Windows. It just seems XP is problematic.
