According to Weaver-Ballard, hitting on the 3 is right "more often than commmonly recognized in the early game".

I concur.

Also concur ;)

My last concurrence is 63R 32S 31 should be played hitting, and it's not even close. On the second roll where I see the most misplays by not hitting off the 3pt are:

  • 52S 64
  • 52S 32
  • 52S 43
  • 32Z 21
  • 32Z 41 (super close)
  • 32Z 52 (uber close)
  • 32Z 64

Of course if we went to the third roll there'd be many more instances. I have a bunch of lame rules in my head of when to hit that deep in your home board & why but I won't try to organize them right now ..., one day...
