I agree with Tom that your proposal is logical but too hard to implement given the currently established use of the term match.

But Tom's proposal of making "match" and "set" exactly reversed from the tennis usage also seems confusing. Perhaps the backgammon analogue to "game, set, match" could be "game, match, series"?
