Why? Because it's right, of course!
Oh, you want more? If Blue stays, allowing White to catch up the race, White's cubes are likely to be efficient. If Blue runs and White PoH, then it's a stone-cold pass so there's little cube vigorish for White. I also neglected to consider Jacoby (I default to playing without it, but I assume you use it): with Jacoby active White gets no value from gammons after PoH.
BTW, I'll predict that Snowie runs and gnubg stays put. Gnubg is known to overvalue holding holding games, and Snowie (at least in the past) had bad bear-in technique, leading to wastage, so it probably overvalues chequers on the low points.
