College Try

"College try" usually means the opposite, a very strong effort made toward an end that isn't all that likely to succeed (though success must be a possibility, or else it's just acting like an idiot) For example, in tennis, running like crazy to try to return a high-bouncing shot after you missed it while it was rising, even though when it comes back down it, and you, will probably both hit the back fence.
