This is done occasionally, but I think Sly is saying that people generally don't do this enough. I'd agree with that.

I believe that this criticism is very far off the mark. I have of course publicly criticized the way the nactation system is developing. If you see (for example) a boldface red "g" then I agree you have every right to ask, "What the !@&$ does that mean?" (pardon my nactation...I mean pardon my French).

However, Iancho, you're not separating the nactation system from the information that Nack is conveying with his nacbracs. Falafel likes the phrase "real backgammon"; allow me to use the phrase "real analysis." I would say that Nack's posts are among the best examples of real analysis on this site. It's not just verbal fluff; it is backed up by mountains of hard data. If you don't appreciate this, then I'm afraid you're so unfamiliar with what real analysis looks like that you don't recognize it when it jumps up and bites you in the face.
