SLY'S INSIGHTS: Response to Giants Survey

I don't have a dog in this hunt and don't really want to get involved in the discussions and arguments.
However, I will make one observation which may be analogous in some ways. Oftentimes, in sports, the best coaches and teachers are not the superstars granted great natural abilities -- doubtlessly refined with study, practice, effort, etc. The best coaches and teachers are those who were not blessed with the greatest talent but who became very good or great through years of determination to do so. They had to learn many of the things that, perhaps, came naturally to others. Thus, they have more of an understanding and ability to pass this knowledge along to others.
I was a very good natural athlete when younger, but I was not a great coach of kids when I helped with my children and their friends. I could demonstrate to them how to do things but I couldn't teach them the hows and whys -- I'd never really learned how to hit a baseball, throw a baseball, run very fast, etc.; I could just do it.
