Creating an interior gap is usually not a good idea. Here Blue gets hit on the first possible turn 7/1296 fewer times after 5/off 4/3 than after 5/off 5/4 (5/off 3/2 is worse). But without looking further, I'd assume that creating the gap on the 4 point is likely to lead to more than 5/1296 worth of winning hits later.
