My biggest blunder in recent memory

Many people, including myself, find it educational to try problems without any hints first. If the initial post reveals any information, then it's impossible for readers to do this.
Further information (such as the OTB play and the rollout data) can be, and typically is, revealed in a followup post, at least by posters who are well-organized and have a sense of civic duty. Since you do get this information eventually if you want it, nothing is really lost by withholding it from the initial post, and something is gained thereby.
I'm not sure what you're referring to by a "phony problem." Do you mean the problem of figuring out what the OTB play was? If you think that's a phony problem (and I kind of agree), then don't try to solve it. Just try to figure out what the best play is.
If anything is a "phony problem," it's a position that is presented with auxiliary information that you would never have in a real game, such as, "I played this and it was wrong."
