The more checkers you have on 8pt[or bar point] the more you inclined to waste a pip. If you don't waste a pip now, you are likely to waste more later. I know at least one checker has to go to 5pt, possibly more. So, I would start with 8/5 and look for 3 more threes. 13/10 is the next one, gaining flexibility and giving yourself good 4's. With the last two threes I slightly prefer 13/10 20/17.
