Backgammon betting levels ?

We have had a somewhat similar discussion before. Whether it's considered low, medium, or high stakes depends on the individuals involved and nothing more. That's not how almost anyone views it in general but that's the way it should be. For example, Gus Hansen who is a very strong backgammon player and well known poker professional plays backgammon at what would be considered very high stakes. I think he'd play up to $10k a point (money games) without flinching if he could find it. One reason is of course he's a great player, but the main reason is he has the money and it's not exactly high stakes to him.
To make my point what if Michael Jordan played backgammon (known gambler) and wanted a game? Gus is no longer a high roller, Michael would probably yawn at these stakes and it wouldn't be worth his time because it wouldn't get his juices flowing. Jordan could suggest a stake that Gus couldn't even play for.
This is the same for people down at the 'recreational' level. Any more there aren't a lot of fishy games like there were in the past. The highest constant chouettes that I know of in the US cap out at $25/point. There are individuals who will play for more, perhaps up to $100/pt.
To answer what you and everyone else would like to hear I'd say between $0-$10 per point is low, $20-$50 is medium, and any thing above that is 'high stakes'. Again, that's for money play per point, not matches. It is common to play matches for $50 or $100 per point no problem.
