thanks for this nice detailed analyze. Slot is valuable when opp has blot in front of 6 pips us, and generally slot only 1pip in front of opp. Not sure about 2, 3 pips slot.
Happy to help. To clarify, though, it's not so much about how many pips in front of the opponent the slot is. It has more to do with the quality of the point one is hoping to cover (by virtue of slotting it). The 5pt is valuable.
Also, it is better to slot in front of an advanced anchor (as in these examples) than to slot in front of a blot. The idea is that in order to hit the opponent has to sacrifice something (her anchor).
For the last diagram, blue's slot is more valuable I guess bec. of the spare at 8pt to use it covering 5pt than previous examples.
The presence of the 8pt spare is just one of the elements in a multi-faceted tradeoff, and overall the decision of whether to slot the 5pt may actually be closer on the previous roll. I'll post a rollout separately for that position.
