I think keeping a maximum number of active builders aiming at the four point is more important than the two shots we give when playing to the 12. If playing 17/12, the rolls 54 and 56 (55 is a joker regardless) run one checker past the man in the outfield. I don't see that as much of an added risk, since we should be more concerned about attacking the four point in any case.
