Play for the what?

In Response To: Play for the what? (Stick)

After reading Kit Woolsey’s article Bearing in Safely, I think the “safe” play here is to stack the 5pt, 9/5 6/3.

While Blue is waiting for a safe roll to clear his 6pt, 5 is his “trouble” number. He can play any smaller number easily, but his 5s are forced. Placing a fourth checker on the 5pt, gives him that much more leeway.

At BG-go, I suppose you rip one from the 3pt.

My understanding of BG-go is very limited, so take my play for what it is worth. One of the concepts I have yet to master is balancing risk and reward. When you play GG, often you earn a big reward in the form of more gammons. BGs are a different animal. Even when you play with maximum aggression, it is hard to get one. With the odds so low, my sense is that the marginal risks taken to win one should be commensurate.
