There are a number of Unicode “combining diacritical marks” including a “combining low line” (U+0332), but there are no Unicode characters that will add an italic to another letter. Your best bet is to select one of the combining Unicode characters such as “combining double low line” (U+0333), and use it as a surrogate italic. This web page gives some tips for entering Unicode characters from the keyboard, but I could not get any of them to work with Excel.

What does work is to use Excel’s Insert->Symbol command. When the Insert Symbol dialog box appears, choose a font that supports Unicode (such as Arial Unicode MS), and then choose “Combining Diacritical Marks” from the “Subset” list. There you will find the combining double low line.
I just tried it in Excel 2010, and all went well. When you use this method, the nacbracs you return from Lookup formulas will include the combining diacritical. A final caveat: Be sure to format the cells where nacbracs are stored with a font that supports Unicode.
I hope this helps.
