The veteran's bracketing for one checker on the bar vs. an open 3 point, i remember, had five checkers in the outfield with the 8 point, with a closed board by the dancer. Proximity of builders, open point and the race are issues.

The 3 point is a piece of..., some one said in another context. As deeper the open point is, escaping gets more difficult. The board isn't closed anymore, builder are in range, and outfield control will be established. Plus some closing numbers, pick and pass or crunching entries.

I think, the sum of all tips it to an easy RD/P.
