ABT events on the same weekend

This is a difficult subject. My wife runs an ABT event and I'm sure she wouldn't appreciate it someone held another event the same weekend. Nevertheless, I don't think it is entirely clear that having multiple events on the same weekend is simply wrong. Every weekend there are many Chess tournaments around the country. People generally choose tournaments that are geographically close. The compeition is good. The ABT model where everyone travels long distances to tournaments is not ideal. Would it be good for the game if we had more than one event on the best weekends in different parts of the country? Would that improve attendance or hurt it? It isn't clear to me. I would hope that all organizers are courteous and considerate to other organizers. Good organizers are in short supply. But's let's stop and think before we condemn. Would it really be so bad if we had one event in San Francisco and another in Florida the same weekend? Where do we draw the line? (If you want to condemn after thinking, that's fine. I would just like to see some thoughtful dialogue.)
