In Response To: Two Tough and Tricky Checker Plays (Paul Weaver)

Why, just yesterday I had a position somewhat like the first one here in which I chose not to hit the third checker and that was a big mistake. This position is different from my yesterday's -- the third checker is out of play on the acepoint, the eight point is valuable and after 8/5 we have too many checkers bearing on the 4 point, if the 23-point anchor gets made. So if hitting is correct, not hitting shouldn't be a big error. As you gave away already! But I'd play bar/24* 8/5 here.

In the second position three checkers on the 24 point usually scream "don't do that!" and I don't see any play -- bar/22? bar/23 6/5? bar/23 11/10? -- that should be better than bar/23 24/23.
