In the position on the right, 53P-44B-65, we have three rollouts that were reported last week:

53P-44B-65 [S R17] '<=5 Dmitriy
53P-44B-65 [S R2] "<=20 Nack
53P-44B-65 [S R4.2] "<=62 Mike

The numbers give splitting a small edge over running. The last two, by Nack and Mike, are tied under the Ballard-Weaver error scale. The first one is Dmitriy’s. It is deemed, “very close,” by the same measure.

Dmitriy’s position, 42P-44B-65, is diagramed on the left. When Blue owns his 4pt rather that his 3pt, splitting should be even stronger. With the 4pt to bolster him, Blue can handle being hit a little better. My guess is that a rollout will show by a narrow margin that he should split. Splitting bids for an advanced anchor, leaves his back checkers connected, unstacks the midpoint, and reinforces the stripped 8pt. (I learned this all from Dmitriy!)
