Pittsburgh Tournament

In Response To: Pittsburgh Tournament (Bill Riles)

To Bill, Jeb and others who feel Rob M was in error . Jeb in 2002, 2003 and 2004 Boston and your Carolina tournament shared the SAME weekend. Boston had attendance of 62, 68 and 69 and Carolina had 51, 57 and 67. In 2005 only Carolina had a tournament -90 players. Two tournaments = 125-135 players, one tourney 90 players. In 2008 NYC started the Metropolitan the week before Carolina in January. Combined 196 players -NYC 114 , Carolina 82. No boycott of NYC for being one week off from Carolina. In 2008 the early Vegas tournament landed on Cleveland's date and Cleveland was forced to move even though an established tourney..NO boycotts of Vegas. In the early 1990's Bill Robertie started a February tournament on top of my dates I was told I could change MY weekend, even though the established tourney. I felt i had the better tournament and after 2 years he disappeared. Also in 1998 and 1999 someone had the audacity to run the Doubles Pro-AM the same weekend as my tournament..there was no boycott. Enough on the background. Rob and I felt the eastern mid atlantic region was being underserved with tournaments since Chiva ended the Baltimore tourney. The east coasters only had NYC in January and Pittsburgh in February..All other tournaments to attend would require much greater travel. When Butch Meese ran the Indy tourney over labor Day 100-150 players attended. If only 60 were attending in Madison, there had to be quite a few players out there desiring to attend a "closer" tourney Labor day weekend. As i have shown above , Two tourneys can be run the same weekend if far enough apart and regional of nature. All of you know MY stated goal of having tournaments FOR THE PLAYERS. If Rob was not attempting to push Madison out of the way , but instead adding a BG tourney to allow more BG players to play, thank him instead of castigating him. Your reply is desired...Whether the USBGF, ABT or a group of players is formed, some sort of official guidelines should be made if you believe a current problem exists
