Two up gives us slightly better chances of an advanced anchor, but we'll be behind in the race (especially if we get attacked before anchoring) in a mutual holding game and therefore at a slight but persistent disadvantage.

Staying back while slotting the 9pt gives us better shot potential, which is more valuable if we're behind in the race.
