I would be amazed if that were not the case. Note that you can make a score where virtually your sole goal is to win a backgammon and nothing else matters. As an example suppose your opponent has a 1024 cube and the score in the match is you are 3072 away and opponent is 1 away. reverse it and checker plays virutally have only the goal of avoiding getting backgammoned.
