53P-43Z-53 – Blue played K = 6/4*/1*

Daniel: [53P-43Z-32K in the diagram on the right is] a weak blitz. But perhaps if we mentioned more of the positives for the play? It puts a second checker on the bar, doubles the number of fanning numbers from 2 to 4, reduces return hits from 19 to 11, reduces return hits that hit twice from 2 to 0.

This is the perspective I missed. 11 hits versus 19 is certainly significant, and no double hits to boot. I am not sure, though, what you mean by, “doubles the number of fanning numbers from 2 to 4.”

Daniel: Should 6/4*/1* do a little better [after 64P-43Z] than after 53P-43Z?

After making the 2pt in the diagram on the left, 64P-43Z-32, Blue is better positioned for an attacking game than he is for a priming game. Blue has a comparatively stronger priming game (to go along with his attacking game) in the diagram on the right, 53P-43Z-32. In the right-hand diagram, K (Kill) = 6/4*/1* is almost tied with H (Hit) = 13/10 6/4*. Because the priming chances are worse on the left, I expect that K (Kill) will fare better in a comparison with H (Hit) in that position.

Daniel: May I ask, what does XG play for 53P-43Z-32 ? For money Gnubg hits twice on all plies, also at DMP except 3-ply and 4-ply which play 13/10 6/4*.

[H K9.4 X29.3] "e (2-ply)
[H K2.1 X19.8] "e (3-ply)
[K H6.3 X24.0] "e (XG Roller)
[H K0.4 X19.8] "e (4-ply)
[H K0.5 X21.3] "e (XG Roller+)
[K H13.4 X29.8] "e (XG Roller++)
[K H3.7 X21.0] "<=103*20

What caused me to roll this out was that an XGR++ eval reported that my H (Hit) = 13/10 6/4* was second best, down by 0.013! The rollout confirms that it is a lot closer than that.
