Daily Quiz 2/28

1. There are three candidates: the no-blot 24/18 6/5, the bold and blotty 13/7 8/7, and the tweener play 24/18 8/7. Not playing 24/18 looks too risky, so I start with 24/18 and have to decide whether we can tolerate 13 shots from the bar. 6/5 looks really awkward but 13 shots also seems a lot. Not sure. I usually favor bold plays so I would probably play 8/7 OTB but won't be surprised if it's wrong.
2. Can't see why we wouldn't hit with 24/23*. Re-anchoring doesn't seem to make much sense, so I play 6/4 with the next two 1's and have to choose between the pure 5/4 and the safe 4/3. Leaving the blot with 5/4 will lose more gammons, and duplicates our own 5's, while 4/3 gives us 5's and 6's to escape and 2's, 3's and 4's to make our 4pt. Making a solid five-prime usually counts for a lot in prime-versus-prime positions, though. Not sure but I'll try 24/23* 6/4 5/4.
3. The fourth 4 is a little awkward. I guess I'll try bar/21 8/4(2) 6/2 unstacking. Magriel's criteria argue against 10/6, and 13/9(2) seems to strand our back checkers somewhat.
