I considered 8/4*(2) 6/2(2) but thought it gave White more than 20 return shots. Counting again now, I see that in addition to the 9 dancing rolls, 52 32 21 11 also miss, so White has 20 return shots here as well. So it's definitely a candidate. At a normal score, I guess that the extra gammons won would make 8/4*(2) 6/2(2) the clear favorite.

I think that this is a position where tactics dominate over general strategic considerations.

To test my theory that the immediate return shots are critical here, one could try modifying the position to change the number of return shots, to see what difference that makes. For example, what happens if we move White's blot on her 15pt to her midpoint?
