Pointless double?

Stick learned that term, along with just about everything else he knows, from me >> I first used the term at Kit's bulletin board several years back. It's quite possible someone else came up with it independently, of course.

Now about the position...my first impression was that it's a peach short of a pie to double. Then I thought about the score, and how you really don't want to play pingpong from behind, even when you aren't much behind, when you have a decent shot at a gammon and if the action starts on the immediate sequence. And it does that here, with any decent double, plus anything that makes the 5 point followed by a lame response. I do double this, even though the take is ginormous and I can't imagine anyone passing it.
