It is true, as I have pointed out, up to the point at which White hits something. That doesn't happen very often. I have played this a lot and equity drains away during both bear-in and bear-off, even with world class play, while White loses no equity. In an ideal world, all of us would become more conscious of gammons and learn to assess positions better. In practice, this isn't going to happen. Turning a theoretical 1.121 points which requires mental effort and very strong play into a an actual 1 point that requires no effort at all may be for many of us a good policy OTB.
