If blotting on or clearing the 8 point is not a good idea, perhaps 5/4(3) 3/2 deserves more consideration than "nah," even though it's blotty and looks funny.
5/4(3) 3/2 -- 4's 5's 6's don't play, 3's bury, all 1's 2's play.
5/4(2) 5/3 -- 4's 5's 6's don't play, 3's bury, all 1's 2's play.
5/2 5/4 -- 5's 6's don't play, 4's bury, 2's 3's play (but not 4-3)
The first two plays look more likely to preserve a 4 point board two turns from now, don't they?
