1) Normally you don't want to volunteer a shot in a holding game. The exception is if your opponent's board is weak and rates to get stronger. That might be the case here, but I'm still playing 8/2 6/1.

2) 8/4(2)* is automatic. The choice is between taking two off or stripping the 6 and 5 points leaving a full prime. The full prime seems to win more gammons (but not very many) and seems safer too. So, 8/4*(2) 6/2 5/1.
