That's a good start ...

I dont want to waste after if we roll the large number if we roll 1x. at 19pt we can use the 1 for efficiently

But how 1's play is irrelevant, since if we roll any 1's we lose a gammon.

OTB, still ...

So notice a couple of things about 23/19 13/10. (1) 6-6 plays 19/7 which is one pip closer than we need the checker go to (since 1's don't help and 2's might). (2) The 10 point checker needs a 4 to get to the home board.

So then what about 23/20 13/9? 6-6 plays 20/8 17/5, and now you see (as Chuck noted) that 6-6 5-5 4-4 3-3 and 2-2 bear off a checker -- 3-3 and 2-2 with no crossovers to spare. So that has to better than 23/19 13/10, because if we roll 2-2 or 3-3, we'd need to use 2 crossovers to move from the 10 point to the home board.
