Thoughts on publishing transcriptions ?

I think it depends (and I am only expressing my view). If two players play in an environment where they know that they are being recorded then there should be a reasonable expectation by those players that the match transcriptions can/will be made available to the public. In this particular case, the match transcription came from an archived video where players were aware the match was being broadcast. In Mike's case I would say it would only be a courtesy to contact the players, however I do not think any permission is required.
If there is something value added to a transcription (like match annotations and expert analysis) and you blatantly copy it and publish it, sure that definitely can be a problem (and can be seen as an infringement of copyright).
The Chess world seems to fight over similar issues. And the question usually comes down to "Do players own the copyright on matches they play". The situation in the Chess world from my vantage point (outsider looking in) seems to suggest it is a very polarized issue.
