I have only been playing backgammon seriously for about 2 years. Recently, I had the opportunity in our local club to use a clock for the first time.

It was at my request. I wanted the experience of pushing the buttons, and playing with just one set of dice. My only condition was that it was all just for fun. No penalty would be given for using too much clock.

To my surprise, the thing I liked best was that the dice remain down after my opponent plays. That alone has motivated me to repeat the experience.

If we intermediates could have more of these “practice” clock sessions, all our phobias would vanish.
