Number 1

Blue has a lot of strong moves, 27/36 moves cover the blot on 3, and there are also the 5’s that hit an extra checker. The position is not Too Good, because white has some awkward return chances.

Number 2

In this position both sides have to reach certain goals. Seen static blue has one difficult goal vs. 4 medium goals of white. If white should hit the blue blot it would be 2 difficult vs. 4 medium (that would be a DT-situation). Blue is better off than this scenario, since he has 17/36 ways to cover the ace-blot.

Number 3

The play that goes for the gammons is 7/2(2) 13/8 11/6. After playing that we have to see how D3 and D4 play for white, they are both very good for white. Playing 23/18 instead of 13/8 would make a big difference in this respect. But what is the gain of the extra builder: 53 and 32 and D2 make an extra point. So a gain of 5/36 versus a loss of 2/36. Because of the 2:1 value of losses vs. gammons, the gammon play wins.
