1. White's gammon value is elevated (about 2/3) while Blue's is only slightly higher than normal. Hitting will certainly lose more gammons and I'm not convinced that it wins enough games. I wimp out and cover. 13/4.

2. I don't see any reason to pay now; the question is whether to clear the 8pt. Saving 6's is often overrated but here 6/1 5/3 is pretty smooth. Plus, holding the 8pt gives us a double shot if White is forced to run. We're still behind in the race. 6/1 5/3 for me.

3. Is White's third checker back an asset or a liability? I think it's a slight asset. Nevertheless, with a 26-pip lead and the bar point filled in, this looks like a clear double for Blue at 3a3a. Most of Blue's rolls play pretty well, leaving at worst an indirect shot. Should still be a take though. D/T.
