Some readers will know that I am working my way through openings and replies for the very first time. As it happens, I have just been studying the trio 6xS-52 in unlimited games.

With 62S-52 and 64S-52, X (Hit and split) is the unambiguous best play. For 63S-52, however, the duplication of the opponent’s POH roll 53, gives a boost to S (Split). It is tied with X.

At-score is a little hard for me, but let’s guess that we lose fewer gammons when we make the tempo hit. It defangs the opponent’s 55 a little bit, at least.

X (Hit and split) = 24/22, 6/1*
