XG is not very hard to learn. I've been using it for about a week now and while I haven't plumbed the depths of all its capabilities I can do everything that I usually do with gnu. My hunch is that either are kinda hard to learn from step zero, but if you already know how to use gnu moving over to XG is mostly a matter of finding the options under a different menu.

The thing I like best about XG is the database of saved matches and the use of the much more rational PR instead of ER. With gnu, my level of play mostly seemed to mostly depend on how many forced moves I encountered; XG is much more consistent. Also, it's much easier to query the database to see trends - despite being an IT professional who spends half his workday writing SQL I could never figure out how to query the gnu saved games database.

Well worth the $60, and as I said above the learning curve is fairly easy if you already know gnu.
