Daily Quiz 7 april 2012
Number 1
It is not that hard to escape from behind a 3-prime. So I play 23x17, after that I think it is a bit too much to commit to a blitz play, I’d rather use the stack on the 6-point to help make the 5- or 3-point.
Answer: 23x17 13/8
Number 2
What does white have to throw to stay in the game? Of the 10/36 non-covers he has a 1/3 chance to hit the blue blot = 3/36. Besides that D1, D2 or D5 would be OK, total = 6/36. On top of that there is the missing white 8-point as a structural minus. So it’s clear blue has a DP. I don’t think it is too good too double. The 6/36 good white moves + the 3-prime makes the white position too good for too good.
Answer: DP
Number 3
The match-score makes a gammon extra welcome for blue. So I’d play 7x2 here, but I will not overdo it with playing a subsequent 15/11, especially since it gives us no extra cover numbers. Playing 12/8 keeps a 5-prime and thus extra safety for blue, might things go wrong.
Answer: 12/8 7x2
