Yes, I'd call this a backgame. A poorly timed one that white should be eager to transition into a holding game, but it meets my definition of backgame*.

And if white can hit a shot and fill in the four point then it might look a lot like a successful backgame. But the chances of that are low, so White should be thinking about some other way to turn things around than by sticking to the backgame strategy.

* A strategy employed by a player who is substantially behind in the race but has two or more anchors in the opponent's home board. http://www.bkgm.com/gloss/lookup.cgi?back+game White is substantially behind in the race and has two anchors. That does it for me.
