If we are not going to hit, then the second-best play must be to bring a builder down to the 8pt, where it has a direct shot at any entering blots. But when we do that, we create a joker 33 for White.

Better is to hit now, and then split off the midpoint. By putting a fourth checker on the roof, we make easy the decision to hit an entering checker later. Coming off the midpoint gives us the best chance to hit a fly shot if we need to next turn, while also diversifying our checkers for a simplified bear in.
