Best defense? (Rollout)

White has 4 checkers on the 6, 8, and 10 to play with before things start getting awkward.
Let's say that you play B/21 7/5 and now White makes a point in his board--the 5 point, 3 point, or ace pt, perhaps hitting & lifting on the way to the ace point. This is by far the most likely variation since any roll other than 21 makes a home board point. What are you trying to do? Any roll that anchors on the 21 point is a very good roll for you since otherwise you are just letting White come home by pick & passing or pointing on you as his rolls dictate. But anchoring on the 21 point is clearly contraindicated, you'd much prefer to be further back. So unless you get a shot on this roll (especially with 21), there is no real advantage to having the 5 point for an immediate exchange of hits, you will make it anyway in time. The 23-point is a major long-term asset because it hinders White's ability to come home safely, whereas a couple of blots scattered around do not.
