This is a welcome change.

In my posts discussing Nactation, I will use the phrase “two spares” to describe a made 23pt or made 24pt. For instance, in the example of 41S-11 from Nack’s post, I will say, “Having a blot on the 22pt beats having two spares on the 23pt.”

Here is a link to a discussion of the Nactations of 41S-66B-51. According to an XG Roller++ eval, the best play is 23/22 9/4. When you can ignore the two plays that make the 23pt, this best backgammon play is nactated as upper case C. Before the new rule, however, it was relegated to 3rd place, and had to be nactated using the cumbersome italic upper case C.

In the same thread, Nack mentions that this rule is a particular boon for players of Nackgammon. When the game starts with four checkers in the rear quadrant, you can imagine that there are a lot of plays in the E (Each) family. By discounting the those that make the 23pt or 24pt, the better plays will more often rise to the top of the family.
