I play 8/5(2) 6/3(2). This exchanges the weak 8 point for the best board point, and uses spares on the 6 point to make the good 3 point. Although the 4 point is better than the 3 point, playing 8/5(2) 7/4(2) would exchange the still potentially valuable 7 point for the 4 point, and would not make not use of the 6 point stack. Additionally, 8/5(2) 6/3(2) leaves at most 8/36 ways to make the 4 point, while 8/5(2) 7/4(2) leaves at most 7/36 ways to make the 3 point (4-5 and 4-3 or 4-5 or 4-2 might instead be used to anchor on the 20 point). I'm not playing 24/21, of course -- although this might gain on numbers like 5-4 6-5 6-6 and 5-5, it should also let White play safely a lot more often in the next two or three turns (3-4 is the only roll on the very next turn, I think), it turns some jokers into superjokers, and in many sequences we will still want to have a guard on our 24 point.
