math degrees for backgammon giants

In Response To: math degrees for backgammon giants (Bob Koca)

I believe Trabi studied math at Uni but dropped out to play backgammon.

Is it an advantage being a mathmatecian when playing backgammon? If it is, please explain what aspects of backgammon are better mastered by a mathmatecian.
